San Francisco

We have been so lucky

Flew out of Heathrow on a BA A380. Really smooth flight, great meals, entertainment, but didn't manage to sleep.  Arriving San Francisco 11 hours later at five pm. Dean's old school friend Rita Flannagan met us at the airport and gave us a quick tour of the city. First impressions; smaller than I expected with some really quaint old Victorian buildings set amongst the modern skyscrapers. Some amazing hilly roads, just like you see in the movies. Had my first frozen Margarita! Then made it to bed and have slept soundly for 8 hours. Ready for breakfast and Rita is picking us up for a day of discovering San Francisco.

Day one in San Francisco. What a wonderful place. Rita picked us up at our Hotel and we spent a lovely day touring and seeing the local attractions. The golden gate bridge was a sight to behold.

We saw some stunning views.

The old fashioned trolley cars were great and we went on one of these this afternoon.

We visited Alcatraz in the morning and this was a fantastic experience, really interesting and informative, a must do if you visit San Francisco!

I had a Dungeness Crab sandwich for lunch close to Pier 39 next to these lovely creatures, lovely to watch but nots so good to smell!!

We have been so lucky with the weather, it was a real scorcher today.  Just finished dinner tonight and have made plans for the next stage of our adventure; to pick up our convertible in the morning and start driving down route one heading towards Carmel and Monterey!
